Shotgun Range

Five-Stand

We have a five stand field at Terrell Rifle and Pistol Club. Five stand is basically a compact field that includes targets that might be thrown in sporting clays. There are a variety of targets which may be set up in various ways to provide more or less challenging shotgun scenarios. We have the following machines:

  • A standard skeet high and low house
  • An overhead outgoing target
  • A Rabbit, which is a sturdy, round target that bounces and rolls across the field
  • A mini, which throws a small target straight up, across, incoming, or outgoing
  • A battue, which throws a sturdy disc across and up. The target then rotates to show it’s face and falls
  • A standard target that is outgoing from behind or straight up.
At the current time, the five stand field is used for practice only; there are no five stand tournaments. It is set up at 9 AM on the second Sunday of each month. This is not competition. There is laughter and a good time. You are not expected to hit very many targets the first few times you try.

While there is a lot of variety possible with five stand, there are some safety concerns that force us to not allow anyone to set up the five stand field unless they are trained. This prevents injury and possible property damage from targets being thrown in unsafe directions, striking cars or people, or targets being thrown in directions which might cause a shooter to shoot in an unsafe direction.

If you are interested in shooting five stand or learning to set up the field, call the contacts listed on the site, or email Davebbell@yahoo.com
